HAMLECI MANSION
HISTORY
The mansion, which has a history of almost 200 years; It was built by İoakim Mubayaacıoğlu, one of the members of the Ürgüp Council of Elders of the period, after whom the neighborhood he lived in was named. During the exchange period, Hüseyin Atılgan, known as "Hamleci", bought the mansion from its first owner. Starting from Hamleci, the mansion has been inherited by four successive generations and its structure has survived to the present day without being damaged.
The construction type of the house is masonry and the main building material is cut stone. The building, which was built in the half-carved-half-masonry technique and also has rock-carved spaces, consists of a ground floor and a first floor. When the plan of the house is examined, it shows the features of 'inner sofa plan type'.

Hamleci Dede, whose stories we learned from those who witnessed part of the period, was Atatürk's telephone caller. It is said that during the time when Hamleci Dede and the generation after him lived, Ürgüp was the most famous and developed region in Cappadocia. At that time, different families lived together in the mansion.
This mansion provides space for many families to live together; It has sections that appeal to different purposes such as courtyard, undami, barn, sheepfold, tandoor, winery, summer kitchen. The Yellow House, which accompanies the mansion in the courtyard, was built as an outbuilding. The chapel we discovered in the Yellow House and the chapel in the mansion, where we learned that Hamleci Dede spent his time in seclusion, show us the meeting places of the mansion's residents. Another section is Zale's house, which was destroyed by an invasive tree.
* Entering seclusion : means closing oneself in a secluded room, a cell called seclusion in dervish lodges, in order to engage in worship, dhikr, asceticism and murakabe. Forty-day private training is also called ordeal among the people.
